In case you hadn’t heard, that little movie series about a boy wizard, based on a book series you maybe might have heard of a while back, came to an end this past weekend, and boy did it end with a bang!
“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 2“, the final theatrical adventure for Harry, Ron, Hermione, and the other students and teachers at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry battling against the Dark Lord Voldemort and his Death Eater followers, blasted a magical trail to the top of this summer’s box office sales, conjuring up $168.5 million in its opening weekend, which surpasses 2008′s “The Dark Knight” for biggest weekend opening ever. “Deathly Hallows” also claimed records for best single-day gross ($92.1 million), best midnight launch ($43.5 million), and best international debut ($307 million). Brilliant, Harry!
Be prepared to see “Deathly Hallows” continue to rule at the box office this upcoming weekend, despite the opening of Marvel Studios’ second major superhero movie release of the summer, “Captain America: The First Avenger“, starring Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, and Stanley Tucci, starting July 22nd.
